History
The Siskiyou Singers were founded by Jacqueline Dougherty in 1982 as
a community choir. The first name of the group, and still its registered
name as a non-profit corporation was Siskiyou Chamber Singers. The choir
has long since grown beyond the size of a chamber group. Under the musical
direction of Dave Marston the group has grown to an average number of 100
singers. Typically, we offer three different programs annually to the community,
up to seven performances total. The Siskiyou Singers operates through SOU
as part of the Department of Continuing Education. The Siskiyou Singers
is a grass roots community choir. It exists for the singers who make up
the choir and for the community it serves. As a group, we take pride in
doing our best work.
Mission statement
We are a diverse
group of singers with varied levels of skills. We work together through
disciplined rehearsal to present and make accessible outstanding choral
works that encompass many countries and centuries. We share a deep concern
to reach audiences in a personal way with the programs we present. We also
seek to expand our own understanding and appreciation of a wide range of
choral music.
