Throughout the ages, many Latin texts have become associated with Christmas. Composers have illuminated these texts with some of their most outstanding music. There is the joyful Gloria in Excelsis Deo ("Glory to God in the Highest"), the serene Ave Maria ("Hail, Mary"), the robust Hodie Christus Natus Est ("Today Christ is Born") and the awe and wonder of O Magnum Mysterium ("O Great Mystery"). Our Christmas concert will explore how the greatest choral composers have set these texts to music, including no less than nine Ave Marias, from Josquin Des Prez of the Renaissance to the contemporary Franz Biebl. Come share this fascinating - and novel - way of celebrating the Christmas season. All concerts are held at Southern Oregon Universty's Recital Hall in Ashland, OR.

Carmina Burana stands as the best known choral work of the 20th century. Carl Orff's celebration of spring and the joys of earthly pleasure brings a decidedly secular experience to our second concert of the year. It will be
seven years since we presented this wild, orgiastic composition,
complete with two pianos and five percussionists. The popularity
of that concert brought the Siskiyou Singers to a prominently visible
place in our community. The popular demand of the delightful work
will be well worth another listen.
